Music Department

Welcome to the Double Reed Studies, Music Theory, and Non-Western Music Page

Dr. Ruth Dahlke coordinates the double reed studies at Minnesota State University Moorhead while maintaining an active schedule of professional oboe appearances with the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra and several chamber music groups. Dr. Dahlke also teaches musicianship courses (music theory and history) and our class in non-Western music cultures. (The picture shows her with a Malaysian percussion instrument in a drum museum in Japan.)

The performance opportunities for double reed players at MSU Moorhead vary from appearances with our Wind Ensemble and our MSU Moorhead Symphony Orchestra to a wide variety of chamber music groups and popular music ensembles.

Students interested in world music can take advantage of our large ethnic music video library and collection of world music recordings. There are also concerts and workshops with artists that visit our campus and community each semester.
