Nick Fryer has a B.M. in Jazz/Studio Music from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and a M.M. in Jazz/Pedagogy from Northern Illinois University. Nick studied guitar with James E. Smith, Fareed Haque and Steve Cardenas. In Jan 09’ Nick will be attending the School for Improvisational Music Winter Intensive in Brooklyn, New York at Long Island University where he will be studying with New York based guitarists Brad Shepik and Ben Monder.

As a performer Nick was an integral member of the music scene in Chicago for six years. In addition to performing at many of the top jazz and rock venues in the Chicago area, Nick also performed at various jazz festivals including the JVC Jazz Festival in New York City and Jazz in Peru International Jazz Festival in Lima, Peru.

Nick also has over ten years experience as an educator with a wide variety of experiences that include instructing private and group guitar lessons, coaching jazz combos, big bands, and rock ensembles, music theory and music history. As a clinician, Nick has taught throughout the mid-west, Canada, and South America. Nick was on the faculty at the Chicago Academy for the Arts and Harold Washington College in Chicago. Nick is currently Assistant Professor of Music at Minnesota State University Moorhead where he teaches guitar and Jazz Studies.
