The Concert Choir performs music from the Middle Ages through the 21st Century, with a special focus on choral- instrumental collaboration. The choir performs regular concerts each semester, including combined performances with the University Symphony Orchestra and the Fargo- Moorhead Symphony Orchestra. The Concert Choir tours annually during spring break, with destinations ranging from the upper Midwest to Washington, D.C. to Great Britain.
Auditions for the Concert Choir are held near the beginning of the fall semester and by appointment for spring semester. Students can sign up for an audition time on Dr. Mahraun's door, room 135 in the Center for the Arts (CA). Audition forms, which are also available outside of CA 135, should be filled out and brought to the audition. Auditions generally consist of three elements: 1) singing a familiar song that is provided, 2) vocal exercises to determine range and appropriate voice part, and 3) tonal memory exercises, 4) sight singing. After the initial audition, singers who are being considered for selection into the choir may be recalled to participate in a brief group audition before final determinations are made.
Concert Choir rehearsals are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:00-3:50 p.m. and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00-4:15 p.m.
