2006-07 Concert Choir


The Concert Choir is an auditioned ensemble open to all students at Minnesota State University Moorhead. Under the direction of Dr. Paul Nesheim, the Choir performs a wide variety of choral music from the Renaissance through the 21st Century. The choir performs on campus and in the community and tours annually. Choir rehearsals are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:00-2:50 p.m. and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00-3:15 p.m. 



In recent years, the performances and tours of the Concert Choir have included:

• Sea Symphony with the MSUM and North Dakota State University Choirs, The FM Chamber Choral, and the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra.
• Concert tours to cities including Seattle, WA, Couer d'Alene, ID, Vancourver, British Columbia, Canada, Milwaukee, WI, Chicago, IL, Holly Springs, Mississippi, St. Louis and Kansas City, Missouri, and Memphis, Tennessee.
• Overseas tour to England and Scotland.
• Fine Arts Series performance with the Dale Warland Singers.
• Performance of Persichetti's Celebrations with the MSUM Wind Ensemble.
• Performance of Charpentier's Minuit pour Noel (Midnight Mass for Christmas) 
• Performances with the MSUM Symphony Orchestra, including:
   • Beethoven: A Choral Fantasy
   • Handel's Messiah
   • Pergolesi's Magnificat
   • Rutter's Requiem
   • Gatti/Ruzicka's Te Deum Laudamus
   • Haydn's Te Deum in C
   • Mozart's Vespers
   • Vivaldi's Gloria
   • Persichetti's Celebrations (with Wind Ensemble)
 


2006-07 Festival Men's and Women's Choirs


The Festival Women's Choir and the Festival Men's Choir, both under the direction of Dr. Paul Nesheim, are open to all university students without audition. The choirs perform a wide variety of choral music: sacred and secular, folksongs and spirituals, accompanied and a cappella, old and new. Concerts are presented throughout the academic year both on and off campus. In addition, both choirs perform at the Minnesota Choral Directors Association's annual Women's/Men's Choir Festival at St. John's University each October. The Festival Women's Choir rehearses on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The Festival Men’s Choir rehearses on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11:00 a.m. to 11:50 a.m.
  



Dr. Paul Nesheim, Director of Choral Activities

Paul Nesheim is assistant professor and director of choral activities at Minnesota State University Moorhead, where he conducts the Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Festival Women’s Choir and Festival Men’s Choir, and teaches choral conducting. He also directs the adult and youth choirs at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Moorhead. Prior to beginning his work at MSUM, Dr. Nesheim taught on the faculties of Concordia College in Moorhead, and Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He has also held previous positions as a high school vocal music director and as a church choir director in Minnesota, California, Iowa and Arizona.

Dr. Nesheim holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in music education from St. Olaf College, a Master of Music degree in choral music from Arizona State University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in conducting from the University of Arizona. He has studied conducting with Maurice Skones, Douglas McEwen, Kenneth Jennings and Miles Johnson. Nesheim is an active member of the American Choral Directors Association and is a frequent clinician and guest conductor for high school festival and honor choirs, including the 2004-05 Minnesota All-State Men’s Choir. He is a published composer and the author of Building Beautiful Voices, a book of vocalization methods and materials published by Roger Dean Publishing Company.
