Requirements: 
·        Attend class, participate in discussions on texts and lecture topics.
·        Read texts. 
   
·        Stiebing read by Sept. 24
   
·         Trigger read by Dec. 7
·        Take midterm exam, Oct. 8.
·        Prepare a typed review of the Stiebing text, about 10 pp., due Nov. 5.
·        Complete a take-home final essay exam (typed) due on Dec. 17.   

Grading: 
A = Student turns in outstanding tests and review paper, on time; is deeply involved in discussions on a regular basis, and makes incisive contributions (Eg. Isn?t it significant that military men such as Pitt-Rivers and R.E.M. Wheeler, made very significant contributions to the practice of field archaeology.  Was this an analogical extension of their military training?, rather than, How old was Pitt-Rivers when he died?); is obviously prepared for class and always has readings completed; attends all or almost all classes.

B = Student turns in fairly good tests and review on time; participates routinely in class discussions and has obviously read the texts;  attends almost all classes.

C = Student turns in acceptable test and paper.  Attends most classes but participates only minimally.  Does not read texts carefully and cannot participate fully in class discussions of textual materials.

D = Student turns in sub-par paper and test.  Misses many classes; is unprepared for class discussions

F = Student misses most classes; turns in sub-standard assignments late; is unprepared for discussions.
