Michael Michlovic is professor of anthropology and chair of the department of Anthropology and Earth Science.  His specialization is in archaeology.  He received a BA from the University of Pittsburgh, and an MA. and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois.  Michlovic has taught at Minnesota State University Moorhead since 1975.

  • 115 Introduction to Archaeology: A beginners review of the field of archaeology.  This course includes an outline of the methods and theory of modern archaeology, including a discussion of site discovery and excavation techniques, dating procedures, and elementary analytical techniques.  Lectures will focus on a review of global culture history as revealed in the archaeological record.
  • 210 Midwest/Plains Prehistory: Culture history of ancient peoples in the northern Midwest since earliest occupation.  Archaeological excavations and their implications for understanding regional prehistory.  Origins of historically known ethnic groups.
  • 216 The Paleolithic Age: An examination of Paleolithic archaeology, reviewing the major cultural achievements of the Old Stone Age, and outlining the basic techniques of archaeological science.
  • 318 Archaeology and the Bible: Study of Syro-Palestinian archaeology focussing on the Bronze and Iron Age.  Special emphasis on the relationship to Biblical texts to archaeological finds.
  • 445 Seminar: History of Archaeology.  This course is a study of the history of archaeology and the origins of the fundamental ideas of archaeological science.  The course is focused on the philosophical background and implications of archaeological theories.
