Minutes for March
18, 2002

I.
Introductions
-- Individuals present introduced themselves.
II.
Summary from last meeting
-- Kay reviewed the activity of the last assessment committee
meeting. Two surveys
are being developed -- one for students and one for
faculty/staff/administrators. Each survey will cover 8 areas.
In discussing the order the areas will appear on the surveys,
Phyllis suggested that questions about discrimination should be
blended in throughout the surveys, not be a separate area.
The group agreed with this recommendation. Kay stated that
the goal was to reduce the surveys, currently several pages long, to
4 pages, which was the target length established at the last
meeting.
III.
Review of Faculty/Administrator/Staff Survey
-- The group began reviewing the faculty survey and made the
following changes:
Introduction -- Deletions and wording changes were made to
ensure brevity.
Pre-Collegiate Experience Questions -- Kay will check on
census categories of towns/cities for use in question 1.
Question #2 was eliminated.
Question #3 was substituted for one of Phyllis' questions.
Community Questions -- Question #1 was eliminated.
In question #2 the previously deleted categories will be
reinserted except "Other" will be replaced by
"Internet" and the phrase "racial and ethnic"
will be used rather than "diversity."
IV.
Next meeting
-- The next meeting of the assessment committee will take place on
April 8, from 10:00 to 12:00 in Birkeland Lounge at Concordia
College.
