MSUM’s photography style evokes a connection to our audiences. We strive for images that capture moments and perspectives that reflect our promise of collaboration, opportunity, learning and real-world education. Our photography resources primarily support the communication channels that reach external audiences. We will do our best to meet photography requests, but priority is placed on projects that are intended for a specific use and that impact a broader and larger university audience.

    Studio Hours

If you need a headshot, our studio hours are:
    Tuesdays: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
    Thursdays: 1 to 4 p.m.

We are located in the lower level of Weld Hall room 13. If no one is in the studio, please go down the hall to Darel Paulson’s office 7B.

    On Your Own

Not all significant events or photo opportunities occur on campus. Please consider the following if you are an amateur photographer taking a photo for a university project.

    1. Photography of people should show engagement, whether in an activity or with another individual (students with students, students with faculty, student working in a lab.)
    2. Student-centered or faculty-centered photography should appear natural and not posed.
    3. Focus should remain on subject matter in a less traditional manner with unique usage of foreground or background elements to create depth and visual texture.
    4. Color palette is not limited but should be bright and vibrant.
    5. No cell phone photo images or images downloaded from the Internet will be used for university promotion.
    6. If the photo is to be used for wider university promotion, please get model consent via the model release form.

    Photo Requirements

All images provided for university promotion should be high quality to allow for resizing and cropping for maximum visual impact. Images should have a minimum size of 3000x2400 ppi (pixels per inch), the rough equivalent of a 7-megapixel file.

We do not use photos taken by cell phones or photos downloaded from the Web.
