Guidelines for Accompanists and Soloists

The following guidelines have been established in order to facilitate soloists and accompanists in their musical collaborations.  Any questions may be directed to Dr. Manno (CA 104, 477-4094).

·        The standard fee for piano accompaniment of a half-hour lesson is $4.00.  Payment must be made at the time of the service.  This fee is negotiable.

·        The standard fee for piano accompaniment of a one-hour lesson is $8.00.  This fee is negotiable and payment must be made at the time of the service.

·        The standard fee for piano accompaniment of a jury is $25.00.  This fee includes the jury, piano accompaniment of two of the soloist’s lessons, and one hour of rehearsal time.  This fee is negotiable and payment must be made in advance of any rehearsal/lesson/performance.

·        Fees for Master Class performances, Upper Divisionals, and Student Recital performances may be negotiated on an individual basis.  It is recommended that the standard fee set for a jury ($25.00) be used as a model for these other venues.  These fees are negotiable and payment must be made in advance of any rehearsal/lesson/performance.

·        Fees for Junior and Senior Recitals are negotiable.  Students making plans for these events may consider accompanying fees to be in the range of $75.00 for a Junior Recital and $125.00 for a Senior Recital.  These fees are negotiable and payment may be made on an installment plan.  Pianists and soloists are urged to agree upon these matters in advance of the collaboration.

·        Pianists who must miss appointments agree to contact the soloist in advance and make up any lost rehearsal/lesson time.  Soloists who must miss appointments must contact their accompanist in advance so that the pianist can make use of the soloist’s reserved time.  In such cases, the pianist will arrange to make up the missed lesson.

·        Fees should be set and agreed upon in advance of any collaboration.  Some factors to consider in determining the fee:

·        level of difficulty of the repertoire
·        amount of rehearsal time required

·        Student collaborations in music can be incredibly rewarding experiences.  Mutual respect and understanding increases the level of excellence of these collaborations and enhances the educational benefits.  Best wishes to you all.
