Subtitled African-American History Resource, this site presents "a historical perspective of a nation, its people, and its cultural evolution." Included are biographies, full-text books, folktales, documents, information about historic events, and trivia games.  AFRO-Voices contains the text of commentaries, poetry, and speeches. Included also are related links and resources as well as a newsletter of Issues in the News. 

American Studies Recommendations
Created and maintained by Richard P. Horwitz of the University of Iowa, this metapage offers a well-organized collection of select (unannotated) links for American Studies. The site has a nice clean design, with the links grouped by category (Material Culture, Religion, History, Jobs, etc.) and accessed via tabs at the top of the page. Horwitz has also posted the full text of a number of his articles on American Studies. The selectiveness of the site and its easy-to-use design make this an excellent starting point for anyone searching for online resources for American Studies and related topics.

Anthropological index online
The Anthropological Index Online is based on the journal holdings of The Anthropology Library at the The British Museum (Museum of Mankind) which receives periodicals in all branches of anthropology, from academic institutions and publishers around the world. 

AGRICOLA (AGRICultural OnLine Access)
Created by the National Agricultural Library and its cooperators, AGRICOLA covers materials dating from the 16th century to the present.  The records describe publications and resources encompassing all aspects of agriculture and allied disciplines, including plant and animal sciences, forestry, entomology, soil and water resources, agricultural economics, agricultural engineering, agricultural products, alternative farming practices, and food and nutrition. Organized into two bibliographic data sets, which must be searched separately, one data set is the Online Public Access Catalog, known as "Books, etc.," that contains citations for books, audiovisual materials, serial publications, and other NAL and cooperator holdings. The other data set is the Journal Article Citation Index, known as "Articles, etc." It includes citations for journal articles, book chapters, reports, and reprints, selected primarily from the materials cataloged in Books, etc. Both data sets are updated daily with newly cataloged and indexed materials.

Over 23,000 North American artists - painters, sculptors, and illustrators - are listed in this searchable resource.  Included are digital images of the artists' work as well as auction data, brief biographies, book references, and periodical citations. There is information on approximately 300 dealers and galleries, and over 1000 museums are listed. Search by the last name (required) and first name (optional) of an artist to see a basic profile page. 

National Endowment for the Arts

National Gallery of Art - Washington, D.C. 
Museum provides information on Current Exhibitions. There is a site map.  The collection is searchable by specific artist or title. "You can access images of more than 4,000 objects in the National Gallery's collection and approximately 9,275 related details."

National Portrait Gallery - London. 
Has a Picture Library Search with information on approximately 10,000 works in which you can search for artist, sitter of by title or by NPG number. (In Advanced Search you can restrict your search to images available on web site.) There is an alphabetical list of artists, as well as an alphabetical list of sitters.

Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery
There is a Collection and Research Records Search and an Expanded Person Search.  You can search for books, caricatures, collages, decorative arts, drawings, medals, paintings, photographs, prints, sculptures, silhouettes, and 'others'.
