Overdue Notices and Billing Charges
Borrowers are responsible for returning materials by the due date. A courtesy notice is sent via email 7 days after the material is overdue (see Address Changes section below). You should return or renew materials at this time to avoid late fines.Three weeks after the first notice, a second library notice is sent if materials have not been returned. At this point, we assume the materials have been lost, so the notice is a bill for the materials (typically $45.00 for each item) plus a $5.00 billing charge per item. If the library materials are returned the replacement cost is removed and only the $5.00 billing charge per item remains.
Undeliverable email notices are returned to the Library for further processing and delivery. A paper notice is mailed to a local address for those without email. Replacement and billing charges may be paid in the Library or the campus Business Office.
Overdue Reserve Materials
Fines for most overdue reserve materials are $.50 per hour. Fines for overdue three-day reserve materials are $2.00 a day. The maximum fine on reserve materials is $6.00. You may also be charged a $5.00 billing charge per item if the reserve materials are overdue and have gone to the billing stage.
Address changes
It is your responsibility to inform the Library and the Records Office of an address change. Library notices are sent out via email using the email address listed in the faculty or student record. Students should change their email address in the Address Maintenance section of online course registration. Faculty and staff need to notify Human Resources (477-2157) if you prefer to use a different email address.
