Internet Searching: Advanced Searching Tutorial

(Can be used to fulfill Technology Component for FYE, Fall 1999)

Directions for Use




    
  
  1. Check the LIT Center schedule to see if the room is available. Room 222, Library, 2nd
    floor. Schedule is posted outside the door.

  2. Go to the Reserves Desk in the Library and check out a set of headphones for the LIT
    Center with your student ID. Specify that you want "LIT Center" headphones.
    3. 
  
  3. Go to the LIT Center, plug in the headphones in the back of the CPU (there is a
    "green" outlet in the back for audio).
    4. 
  
  4. Open up Netscape, and connect to the tutorial web site (given above).
    5. 
  
  5. Using the headphones for the audio, go through the tutorial, lesson by lesson. Take
    quizzes as they come up to see how you are doing. Approximate time to complete tutorial: 1
    hour.
    6. 
  
  6. At the end of Lesson 4, you will see a "Take Final Quiz." Click on that and
    take the final quiz. Print out the results of your test and present it to your FYE
    instructor for credit.

    Note: Because of software requirements, and the fact that you must use a computer
  with soundcard and speakers, it is best to do this tutorial in the LIT Center.
  Other campus labs do not have the software or soundcard required for the audio.
