    This community helps students within the area of General Studies discover their strengths and passions. Gain knowledge and assistance to help select a major that best fits your talents and aspirations.

    As a member of the community, you will...

    • live with other students who have declared General Studies as a major and are exploring how their interests can lead to a career.
    • take three classes with students who live on your floor.
    • take career/life planning course instructed by a faculty member who has worked closely with students who are still exploring their options.
    • have a Dragon Mentor dedicated to providing you with various opportunities for career exploration and support.
    • be exposed to career options that can be attained through the various majors offered.

    Required Common Courses:

    Univ 131 Career/Life Planning
    Elective (1 credit)
    This course is intended to help students assess their values, interests, skills, and temperament and relate them to career choices. Through self-assessment and career information research, the student will be able to identify a broad base of career options and describe a variety of career goals. Students will acquire tools with which to make decisions and plans regarding major and future career choice.

    PHIL 110 Practical Reasoning
    LASC Goal Area 2: Critical Thinking (3 credits)
    An introduction to critical thinking, with emphasis on understanding the logic of everyday arguments, interpreting the arguments of others, detecting fallacies, and constructing good arguments. (MnTC Goal 2)

    CMST 100 Speech Communication
    LASC Goal Area 1A: Oral Communication (3 credits)
    The theory and practice of oral communication in public and interpersonal situations, stressing both content and delivery.
