Directions to get into D2L

  1. Go to MSUM's homepage.
  2. Click on technology services (near the top)
  3. Click on MSUM Desire to Learn Home (right side near the bottom)
  4. This brings up the login screen
  5. If you are having trouble logging in, directions for login are located at:

  6. Once you are logged in, you should see a schedule for all classes that you are enrolled in for which the instructor uses D2L. Select physical science.  It may be necessary to click on the box with a + in it next to Fall 2005, to expand your available classes.

Research

In Spring, 2005, an undergraduate worked with me on a project exploring misconceptions in my Chemistry 102 class, including those related to atomic structure, bonding, and electron shells. He was able to present at the Student Academic Conference, which looks good on a resume.

Fall 2005, I looked at a workshop to improve lab report writing in Chemistry 200L. 

Fall 2006, Sadie Carter and Rober Jackson looked at simluations, correlating standards and writing lessons for the science simulations that they found. This work was continued by Dawn Swenson and Jonathan Smith during Spring 2007.

My current student, Dana Young, is working on the environmental science modeling project.

Other areas for research include science education, distance education, hybrid learning environments, use of inquiry in science, integrating math and science, and misconceptions in physics and chemistry and how to best change these misconceptions.
