It was required for the dogs to come in costume, but optional for the owners.  By and large, the canines were NOT impressed with wearing clothes.  Mandy is supposed to be an Indian, and Maggie is supposed to be a spotted, golden dragon.  (She hated the booties.)  Although from different litters, both of these dogs were sired by Topbrass Cotton.  Another golden retriever and an Irish setter came as the Blues Brothers (dark ties, dark hats and dark glasses), but my favorite costumes were worn by two miniature long-haired dachshunds.   They were dressed as fuzzy, green caterpillars...complete with antennae.  (Oh, and at Christmas time, Santa Paws pulled a little wagon and distributed gifts to all of the other dogs in class.)
