40% of the tourists in my group (2 out of 5) decided to take a hot air balloon ride over the Masai Mara plain one morning.  The balloons were enormous.  The baskets held 12 passengers plus the pilot and 12 fuel tanks.  We drifted over elephants, lions, Cape buffalo and more.  We passed over the riparian woodland along the Mara River at treetop level, and that really seemed to confuse the birds in the trees!  A soft landing near the Tanzanian border brought us to our champagne breakfast buffet.  It was set up on the grasslands by the advance/chase crew.  The pilot cheerfully announced that today's flight had been free, so we should be sure to enjoy our breakfast.  (Little joke there: the trip cost $300.  It was worth it.)
