Chan Chich Lodge is an enchanting ecotourism destination near the Guatemalan border in western Belize (formerly British Honduras).  Its palm-thatched cabanas are nestled into the central plaza of a Maya ruin, and are flanked by the four, unexcavated temple mounds.   The surrounding lowland rain forest is home to a spectacular array of tropical birds and mammals.  The beer is cold.  The food is great.  The staff does an exceptional job of keeping the grounds and buildings well-groomed, providing activities to keep you as busy as you'd like to be, and of making you feel welcome.  If you want to go at the height of the tourist season, make reservations early!
