MSU again runs July 4 celebration
Moorhead State University will kick off
its 26th annual old-fashioned Fourth of July celebration at 11 a.m.
Saturday.
The celebration, free and open to the public, will begin with two new
features: a 10K run and children's races at 11 a.m. at Nemzek Field on the
MSU campus. Entrants should gather at the north side of the field house.
Activities on the campus mall begin after the 1 p.m. opening ceremony with
children's games, music, bingo, train rides, stagecoach and covered wagon
rides. The children's decorated bicycle parade and contest starts at 1:30
p.m.; entrants for that should assemble at the mall flagpole right after
the opening ceremony.
Stage entertainment will follow the bike parade. Performing will be the
Lake Agassiz Concert Band, Kids Collectibles, Soledad Yberra, the MSU
Heritage Dancers and the Habbestad Family Orchestra from Norway. Disney
cartoons will be shown in Weld Hall auditorium and the planetarium show,
"Destination Mars," will be in Bridges Hall.
Clowndominium will perform throughout the afternoon on the mall. The sixth
annual "In a Woman's Voice" art exhibit, sponsored by the
Women's Network of the Red River Valley, will open in the MSU art gallery.
The day will climax at 8:30 p.m. at Nemzek Field with a flyover by the
Happy Hooligans, followed by performances from the Lake Agassiz Concert
Band and the Sweet Adelines. At dusk, MSU will present its largest
fireworks display ever.
