Moorhead, Minnesota -- For the second summer in succession, Moorhead
State College plans to offer area residents and "Old Fashioned
4th" of July program on campus, featuring a wide variety of free
refreshments, games, band music, prizes, films and demonstrations.
As last summer, when the event drew more than 1,000 persons of all ages,
this year's "Old Fashioned 4th" is offered as a part of MSC's
summer session themes in this decade underscoring the nation's upcoming
1976 Bicentennial. "The Great Depression: A New Look at the
30's" is this summer's specific theme.
Recalling the July 4th celebrations of former years, the afternoon and
evening events will include a formal flag-raising ceremony, brief talks by
two opposing candidates for state-wide office in this year's elections, a
children's costume parade, square dancing and a tug-of-war contest.
There will be nursery school provisions for baby-sitting, free movies,
free lemonade and the traditional free evening fireworks display, staged
by the Moorhead American Legion, at Alex Nemzek Stadium as a climax to the
day.
The annual summer MSC Alumni Association Picnic Supper will be held on
campus that evening and will be open to anyone interested but advance
reservations will be needed and a price charged.
Over-all chairman Lois Selberg says groups of any age willing to
demonstrate skills or perform as part of the day's events are urged to
contact her at 236-2762.
