Minnesota State University Moorhead is participating in the MnSCU Campus Agreement with Microsoft Software. This agreement provides the university with annually renewable rights to install many of the Microsoft products currently in use on our campus computers.
Software Distribution PoliciesCampus Agreement Usage Rights Summary The Microsoft Campus Agreement is not a perpetual license, but a usage license that must be renewed annually. The Campus Agreement gives Minnesota State University Moorhead the license to install the software specified in the Agreement (client side products only) on all university-owned computers for the duration of the Agreement. The Agreement also provides limited Work-at-Home Rights for eligible MSUM employees. Facilitating Compliance Summary Microsoft requires the campus to keep "all usual and proper records relating to reproduction, distribution and use of the Software." Microsoft reserves the right to audit the campus during the term of the Campus Agreement and for a period of one year thereafter. Microsoft further reserves the right to include (on any copy of the Software) technical disabling mechanisms that would, with a timed device, disable the Software once the Agreement expires or is terminated. On-Campus Installation Procedure The procedure for installing the Microsoft software covered by the Campus Agreement on university-owned computers is the same as all other software. That is, departments or employees who wish to have the software installed must email (support@mnstate.edu) or call the Information Technology Department with a request that clearly states the product, version, office location, computer make and model, contact name and phone number or email address. If a department wants several machines updated, the department contact person should compile a list of the desired installations and email it to the Information Technology Department. The Information Technology Department will check the computer inventory to verify that the designated computer will support the requested software. Off-Campus Installation Procedure: Employees who wish to use the Microsoft software covered by the Campus Agreement on a home computer must first verify that the home computer meets the system requirements. Due to recent changes in the Microsoft Work-At-Home rules, CD checkout is no longer available. Employees may purchase installation CDs through the MSUM eSoftware web site. Support of the Microsoft software covered by the Campus Agreement on off-campus (non-university owned) computers is limited to providing periodic training sessions on the various software applications. |
