The Goals of the Information Technology Department at Minnesota State University Moorhead

Introduction
Minnesota State University Moorheads Information Technology Department is charged with the development of programs, policies, procedures and plans related to academic, administrative and student technology services, computing services and the communications infrastructure of the university.

Functions

  • Develop, document, publish, and keep current a comprehensive list of services provided by the Information Technology Department.
  • On an on-going basis, review and evaluate the organizational structure for academic, administrative and communication technology, and recommend changes to provide more effective and efficient services.
  • Develop goals, specific objectives and a long-range plan for academic and administrative technology including a time line for implementation.
  • Work closely with the Strategic Budget Committee, the Technology Committee and the Student Computer Fee Committee to recommend standards for hardware and software acquisition, development and use.
  • Evaluate Local Area Network Services (LANS) and Wide Area Network Services (WANS) and install improvements and upgrades.
  • Develop, document, publish, and keep current the infrastructure standards relating to equipment, wiring, distance transmission, and maintenance.
  • Provide a forum on a regular and ongoing basis for discussion and sharing of efforts and concerns related to academic and administrative technology services.
  • Consider and prioritize major operational changes that relate to the effectiveness and efficiency of academic and administrative technology.  Recommend changes for implementation.
  • Develop and implement a program of staff development to provide personnel with the skills and training necessary to function within the framework of the infrastructure and services offered by academic and administrative technology.
  • Provide software development for academic and administrative support.
  • Recommend an annual budget for the on-going development and implementation of administrative technology.
  • Develop and implement a plan for the on-going evaluation of academic and administrative technology.
  • Develop and maintain a plan for MSU Moorhead web development.
  • Design and develop web applications.
