6. SECURITY

6.1 Security

The Director of Instructional Resources is responsible for security, maintenance, and preservation of the library, instructional technology, and instructional media facilities and their collections and equipment. The Director of Instructional Resources will establish procedures and arrange adequate training for personnel to insure continuing care and security.

6.2 Emergencies

Action taken in response to emergency situations (e.g., fire, illness, threats, disturbing the peace, property destruction, or unacceptable behavior) must depend upon the seriousness of the situation as it arises. NO ONE IS EXPECTED TO PLACE HIM/ HERSELF IN PERSONAL JEOPARDY.

In situations where there is an immediate threat to personnel, patrons, or the physical plant, call the Moorhead emergency number 9-911 and describe the situation and the location. As soon as possible thereafter, inform campus security, 2449, and the Director of Instructional Resources.

Less threatening situations should be reported immediately to campus security, 477-2449. A MSUM Library Incident form should be completed.

6.3 Library Building Closing and Locking Procedures

Campus Security will assume the responsibility for emptying the library building of people, for turning off lights, for noting and reporting any physical plant problems, and for locking and securing the entry complex of doors at times when the library closes at night.  See Procedures for Closing The Library Building.

  1. Campus Security will carry out this procedure on a schedule in accordance with posted library hours.
  2. It is assumed that cooperative sharing of comments and suggestions concerning this procedure will be customary between Campus Security personnel and library personnel.
  3. In the event that the procedures identified above are not carried out on time, an employee at the circulation desk should inform Security, turn out the balance of the lights, lock the library doors, and leave.
