5.1 Use of Library by Community Members
The Moorhead State University Library welcomes visits by non-university organized groups. All group visits should be scheduled in advance by the individual responsible for the group to assure appropriate facilities, materials, and personnel are available.
The library and its resources are available for use by the adult public whenever the library is open. Use of some areas or resources may be restricted. Persons whose behavior constitutes a private or public nuisance may be asked to leave. The library is not responsible for the loss or repair of personal property.
Requests for a visit will normally be directed to the Instruction/Reference Librarian or the Director of Instructional Resources.
5.2 Library Conference Room
The Livingston Lord Library Conference Room is intended primarily for meetings and conferences. Meetings and conferences that do not involve Instructional Resources Staff require the approval of the Director of Instructional Resources. All meetings and conferences shall be scheduled with the library secretary who shall maintain a record of the Conference Room?s availability.
5.3 Library Auditorium, Lobby, and Porch
The library auditorium is a University classroom and is scheduled by the Registrar. The library lobby and porch are scheduled by the University Scheduling coordinator.
5.4 Instructional Space
Library Rooms 131, 208, and 222 are designated as library instructional space and shall not be used for regularly scheduled classes. Use of 131 and 222 is scheduled by the Instruction/Reference Librarian or Director of Instructional Technology and 208 by the Curriculum Librarian. Room 208 is designed to be used also as study space when it is not scheduled for instructional purposes.
5.4.1 Library Instruction/Instructional Technology (LIT) Center
- Policy on Scheduling and Use
The primary use for this room is for library instruction and instructional technology training for Moorhead State University students, faculty, and staff. Priority use is for instruction relating to library resources and instructional technology training - specifically requiring hands-on access to electronic resources.
When the LIT Center is not in use for library instruction or instructional technology training, we reserve the right to ask LIT Center users for their current MSU or Tri-College identification card.
The LIT Center will be open for student?s computing needs, when not in use for library instruction or instructional technology training.
- Reference Assistance
Students may inquire at the Reference Desk for reference assistance (research, information needs, or questions regarding WebPALS or other library databases).
- Technical Assistance
We will not provide support for technical computer questions (word processing, hardware or software questions, spreadsheets, etc.). Technical computer assistance questions should be referred to the Computer Center.
5.5 Staff Lounge
A staff lounge is maintained in Livingston Lord Library and is intended primarily for the employees of Instructional Resources.
Purchasing and accounting are the responsibility of the library secretary.
5.6 Faculty Study Carrels
Private study space is assigned to faculty members in rooms 405, 406, 407, and 408 upon request to the Director of Instructional Resources.
Assignments are made for the academic year, and expire at the end of the Spring Semester. Two faculty members may be assigned to the same carrel. Should a waiting list develop, those waiting will be assigned first at the earliest opportunity.
5.7 Exhibit and Display Policy
The library has available controlled areas and space for exhibits and displays. Such areas and space may be used upon the approval of the Circulation Librarian subject to the following guidelines:
A. Guidelines
- The displays must be primarily educational in nature.
- Displays must be related to the purposes of the organization sponsoring them.
- The person or group sponsoring the display must have an official connection to MSU (recognized campus organization, currently enrolled MSU student, etc.).
B. Priority of users. In the event of a conflict the following order of users is established:
- MSU Library
- Official all-university events.
- Academic departments.
- Recognized campus groups (as defined by the MSU Office of Student Affairs).
- Individuals; faculty members, currently enrolled MSU students, and MSU staff members.
5.8 Food and Drink in the Library
Food and drink should not be consumed in areas of the library designated as public areas. Food may be served in areas designated as classroom and/or conference areas scheduled through the library office.
