Instructional Resources

1.   GOALS

1.1    To provide information sources and services appropriate to user needs, to devise delivery systems, and to facilitate maximum access to information.

  1. Identifying the information needs of users.
  2. Helping users to identify, evaluate, and select materials which are appropriate to their needs, interests, and teaching/learning styles.
  3. Organizing and indexing information.
  4. Providing reference service to users.
  5. Providing bibliographic service to users.
  6. Promoting functional knowledge of a variety of resources and of approaches to obtaining information.
  7. Providing access to information available from outside agencies, including networks.
  8. Stimulating effective utilization of media personnel and resources for the improvement of instruction and for curriculum development.
  9. Providing instruction in the use of the library and its resources.

1.2   To provide consultation services.

  1. Recommending media applications to accomplish specific instructional purposes.
  2. Serving as instructional resource consultants and materials specialists.
  3. Developing user understanding of the strengths and limitations of various information delivery systems.
  4. Planning for instruction in the use of the library/audiovisual services and its resources.
  5. Assisting in planning and modifying physical facilities to provide effective learning environments.

1.3   To provide design services within established university priorities.

  1. Planning and evaluating library/audiovisual services programs.
  2. Supporting instructional improvement and implementation.
  3. Providing materials and production services for the support of instruction.

1.4   To provide administrative services which support the program goals and priorities.

  1. Formulating library/audiovisual services program purposes.
  2. Establishing library/audiovisual services policies.
  3. Identifying library/audiovisual services program priorities.
  4. Establishing criteria for decision making in library/ audiovisual services areas, such as the selection of personnel selection and circulation of materials and equipment, and technical processing.
  5. Developing the library/audiovisual services budget in consultation with faculty and administration.
  6. Supervising library/audiovisual services personnel.
  7. Developing functional specifications for new library/ audiovisual services facilities in consultation with institutional and system representation.
  8. Establishing and maintaining library/audiovisual services access and delivery systems.
  9. Establishing and maintaining library/audiovisual services production services.
  10. Providing for maintenance of library/audiovisual services, materials, equipment, and facilities.
  11. Implementing a library/audiovisual services public information program.
  12. Developing collections for programs.
  13. Providing appropriate environment and space for the utilization of information sources and services.
