Transfer the data from a videotape to the computer
Use video editing software (such as Adobe Premiere or iMovie or Dazzle) to select the portions of the video needed, add transitions and other special effects, etc.
Use Real Producer to convert the file to a format which is compressed and can be streamed.
Copy the video clip (in compressed format) to the streaming server.
Create a hyperlink from your web site to the video clips.
Notes: Currently Student-Tech2 has the video capture card, the VCR, and the software for capturing video (WinTV32) and editing video (Premiere).

| Choose the Video Format (suggestion -- use 1/2 screen which is 320 X 240) |

| Choose Editing Mode from General Settings: (Video for Windows) |

| Choose Time Base under General Settings: (29.97) |
|
| Choose Time Display under General Settings: (30 fps Non Drop Frame Time Code) |

| Choose Video Settings from the pull down option |
|
| Choose Compressor under Video Settings: (None) |
|
| Choose Depth under Video Settings: (Choose Millions Color) |
|
| Choose Frame Size under Video Settings: (320 X 240) and Ratio 4:3 Checked |

| Choose Frame Rate under Video Settings: 29.97
Click OK |

| Import an .avi File: Go to File, Import, find the working file (ie filename.avi) |
|
| Drag the imported file from the Project Window to Video 1A on the Time Line |
|
| Preview the clip to verify if it contains clips: Click on the play button on the monitor tool bar. |

| Find the frame for a starting point: Place the cursor on the time on the Time Line to create a position line and click once--(Can reposition the position line by dragging it) | ![]() |
| Once found the starting point, take a razor tool from the Time Line toolbar. Place the razor on the position line and click once to cut it. |

| Noticed after the Video/Audio has been cut with a razor, the Video/Audio is split into 2 pieces. To Delete the one you don't want to use, select the pointer tool from the Time Line Tool Bar. Click on the Video A1 clip that you don't want to activate and hit the delete key. Do the same for Audio. |

| Drag the Video/Audio to the Time Frame Zero Seconds | ![]() |
| Repeat the steps above to edit the ending point. (Same as Starting point but delete the clipping on the right side of the razor cut.) | |
| Transition: To add transitions to the clips, select a transition from the Transition Window (recommend additive dissolve) and drag it to the transition line on the Time Line Window. Place the transition at the beginning of the video and at the end. |

| Check the setting/fading on each transitions add to make sure that they are doing the right fading on the video (ie: black fades to the video or video fades to black). Double Click on the transition button on the transition line on the Time Line Window. If the fading is incorrect, click on the arrow to change the fading. Otherwise everything is looking good as far as transitions. |

| Preview the clip to make sure everything is working properly. Click Play on the monitor tool bar. |
|
| When all done with editing, select the Time Line Window to make sure it is active. |

| If file delivering streamed, don't compress: Go to File Export Movie |
|
| Export Movie save the file: filename.avi (with extension .avi), then click save. |

In Real Producer
| Start the software for converting the avi videos into .rm : Real Producer: |

| Choose Record from file from the New Session Wizard | ![]() |

| Insert Information about the film (ie Title, Author, Description) |

| File Type: Choose the Multi-Rate Sure Stream for RealServer G2 | ![]() |
| Choose 28 K modem and 256k DSL/Cable Modem to target those audience for with those speed connections |

| Audio Format: Choose the audio format for the video: Voice Only (with limited background noise). May choose voice with background music if the clip has music and talking. | ![]() |
| Video Quality: Choose either normal motion video (recommended for mixed content clips and to balance video motions and image clarity) or sharpest image video (recommended for high action clips to enhance overall image quality) | ![]() |
| Name the output file that you want Real Producer to create for you and then click save as. *Note* Make sure the file extension is ".rm" | ![]() |
| Review the information about the clip you are about to convert-- If need to make changes, click on back, otherwise click finish. | ![]() |
| Review all the settings before start recording the clip. If everything is set according, then click the start button on Recording Control Box | ![]() |
| Wait for the recording to finish, then a message
will pop up that the recording has been completed. If so click close.

| If would like to convert more clips, go to file New Session and repeat the steps above on converting the clips. | ![]() |

Putting a file onto WebCT/Media Server
| Connect to your WebCT account: http://webct.mnstate.edu/ | |
| Click on Enter My WebCT on the web menu bar: | |
| Enter your Username and Password | ![]() |
| Click on Manage Files on the option bar on the left. | |
| Click on Upload Radio Button under File Options, then click GO | ![]() |
| Locate the file you want to upload onto the server. Once the file has been located, select media from the Destination folder option. Then click upload. |

| Once the upload has been completed, it will take you back to your Manage Files Folder. Your file should be listed under My-Files folder, Media folder | |
| To View/Play that File (To test it), open up a player (either Real Player for .rm files or QuickTime for .mov files): | |
