Plug-Ins and Settings
This page contains a list of multimedia or software packages and plugins that may be required for your study or to access multimedia applications on the Web in relation to your studies. Your computer should have a sound and video card but to experience multimedia online, you may also need special software programs called plugins.

ActiveX settings in Internet Explorer | http://support.real-time.com/browsers/security/ie/activex.html
Many of the current security vulnerabilities that exist in Microsoft's Internet Explorer web browser exist in the service called "active scripting". Active scripts are programs written in Javascript, or sometimes Microsoft's VBScript and ActiveX. If you ever go to a URL that has an ".asp" extension, you are most likely running a script, or program, off of that server.

Horizon Wimba is an online webconferencing service that allows you to enter a "classroom" where you can speak with one another over the computer (using a microphone and speakers/headphones). It also enables you to write to one another using text-chat, view PowerPoint slides and share a whiteboard.  In order to participate, you will need a headset microphone for your computer (which you can purchase for around $12). At a minimum, you can use a computer microphone and speakers, but this will diminish the online experience considerably.
