Navigating D2L

Each instructor sets up courses a bit differently, different links, different colors, different folders, etc.

To access your Course Home page click on the appropriate link on My Home page. Your Course Home page contains all of the important tools that you will need to interact with your instructor and your course. The course navigation bar at the top of the screen will remain visible until you navigate outside of your course.

The navigation bar may contains links to Content, Discussions, Dropbox, Quizzes and Grades and Classlist and more.

Spend asome time exploring when you first start your course. Click each link. Click on each folder. Read what is expected of you as a student. Find out who else is in the course. Learn how to use the student email system.

Navigation Modules and Topics Toolbar

Navigation

There are two major navigation elements within your D2L course:

Modules and Topics: a series of links located on the main Content page and listed in a box within the course content

Toolbar: a series of icons on the top of a content bar Toolbar

Modules and Topics

Once you have clicked on the Content link from the course menu bar at the top of your screen, you are shown the table of contents. Here you can quickly see and access all topics within this course. Each module is displayed with the topics listed below. You can go to a topic by clicking on the topic name. If you wish to go to a module, click on module title listed in the box on the left-hand side.

Once you have clicked on a topic or module, you are then shown the course content. You can then navigate using the topics listed on the left-hand side, or by using the toolbar.

Toolbar

In the Content Module you have access to a toolbar that allows you to:

  • change your view
  • undock the content
  • leave feedback
  • bookmark the current page
  • print the content
  • to navigate through the content

 Toggle TOC

This icon allows you to turn on/off the table of contents located on the left hand side of your screen. You may wish to use this when you have a long screen of content or when you are using a low resolution.

Undock

This icon opens the current window in a new window, independent of the Content Module.

 Feedback

Please use the Feedback icon to voice your opinion. For each page you can: give your overall rating of the topic or provide additional comments. Remember that all your feedback remains anonymous.

 Bookmark

To create a Bookmark click on the bookmark icon within the specific topic page. Then once you enter your course home you can "Go to Bookmark" and return to the page where you left off.

 Print

Quite simply, by clicking on this icon you can print the content located in that topic.

 Next/Previous

These arrows allow you to quickly navigate through the content. They will take you from topic to topic, as if you are turning pages in a book.
