Creating Quizzes with
Respondus®
Respondus,
available for free to all MnSCU faculty, is a
user-friendly program
designed for quiz and survey creation.
Respondus can be used as
standalone programs to create paper quizzes,
or it can be seamlessly integrated
into D2L.

Respondus
is a Windows program designed to aid
instructors in creating and
maintaining a database of reusable questions for quizzes, tests, and
surveys.
Respondus offers the
ability to create the nine different question types
-
multiple choice
-
true/falseD2L
-
essay
-
short answer
-
matching
-
multiple response
-
fill in the blank
-
calculated.
Questions can be printed out for in-class use, or they can
be integrated into an online environment,
such as D2L or Moodle. If instructors use Respondus as a standalone
program, questions for print quizzes or tests can be
randomized, ensuring that students are given unique exams
(which is especially helpful if students are working side by
side in a large lecture room).* Moreover, instructors can
import questions directly from text files such as Microsoft
Word, without having to cut and paste individual questions
and answers into the program or worry about formatting.
Another feature of Respondus
is that instructors don't have to be online to add questions to
their question database. This means that instructors can work
from their local computer, using the Internet only if they wish
to upload questions into Desire to Learn. For instructors who
choose to import questions from Respondus into their
Desire to Learn course site(s), only a few simple steps are required.
Before using Respondus, read the introduction and watch the
tutorials provided. If you want to import questions from a
rich text, plain text, or word document, they should be in one
of the following formats (may vary, depending upon the type of
question):
Example 1:
1)
What year is it?
*a) 2008
b)
2007
c)
2006
d)
2005
Example 2:
1.
What year is it?
*a. 2008
b.
2007
c.
2006
d.
2005
Respondus sponsors a free
Test Bank Network, which hosts a bank of test questions
provided by participating textbook publishers. Users can
download test questions from adopted textbooks if the publisher
is represented in the test bank network.

*Randomizing questions
within Desire to Learn does not require using Respondus.
