Mission

The mission of the Minnesota State University Moorhead Community Health (Education) Program is to provide students with an opportunity to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree and the competencies necessary to be successfully employed in a wide variety of areas related to health promotion. Individualized selection of courses will depend on the student's area(s) of interest and employment objective. However, emphasis will be placed on preparing students to successfully pass the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) examination, which is a nationally recognized certification process based on well-established educational competencies.

Program Goals:

1. Assist students in obtaining a Bachelors of Science degree in the field of Health Promotion.
2. Provide a variety of educational experiences based upon the student's occupational objectives.
3. Encourage the development of skills and abilities relevant to successful practice in health promotion.
4. Prepare students to be successful in passing the National Certified Health Education Specialist examination.

Program Objectives:

1. Assist students in exploring the field of health promotion and health education and the wide variety of employment opportunities available in this field.
2. Systematically provide learning experiences that correspond to the competencies established by The National Commission for Heath Education Credentialing, Inc.
3. Prepare students to pass the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) examination.
4. Provide a learning environment conducive to learning and one that is primarily      student-centered.
5. Enhance student problem solving and critical thinking skills.
6. Provide exposure to health care professionals and health promotion specialists who are actively employed in the field.
7. Encourage students to volunteer and actively participate in heath promotion programs offered by the university and local health agencies and organizations.
8. Encourage student feedback regarding the curricula and learning opportunities provided which may be used for program improvement.


Admission

Successful admission to Minnesota State University Moorhead allows one to be admitted to this program. No additional tests or pre-requisites are required.
