Mission

The mission of Minnesota State University Moorhead's Developmental Adapted Physical Education Program is to provide its physical education majors the relevant information and practical experience necessary for the development and maintenance of quality physical education service for students, prekindergarten through grade 12, who have special education needs in the areas of physical fitness and gross motor skills.

Program Objectives

1. To provide the physical education teaching major experiences in the school system along with additional hours for licensure in state and local services providing service to persons with disabilities.
2. To help the physical education teacher understand when circumstances impede development, they must seek alternative approaches that will help accommodate the learner's unique needs.
3. To impress upon the student the need for professional growth by attending DAPE conferences hosted by the Minnesota State Leadership Committee for Developmental Adapted Physical Education.
4. To provide experience working with families, other classroom and special education teachers, and specialized service providers in designing and implementing individualized physical education program plans for students who qualify for DAPE.
5. To provide the physical education teacher the knowledge base to provide positive movement experiences and opportunities for individuals with disabilities to acquire and enhance motor, cognitive and affective behaviors.
