Students enrolled in the Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) receive clinical experiences through practicums and internships infused into regular coursework. Hands-on practical experience is gained by working with student-athletes and patients at a variety of Athletic Training Clinical Education Sites. Students spend 1 to 8 weeks at a site and are evaluated on clinical skills by Approved Clinical Instructors (ACI).
Currently, 23 Approved Clinical Instructors/Clinical Instructors are involved in the clinical education portion of the program. The ACI/CI is a medical professional (Certified Athletic Trainer, Medical Doctor, or Doctor of Chiropractic) who has completed a training program through MSUM ATEP and is familiar with the education of the Athletic Training Student.
Occasionally, an Athletic Training student completes an internship outside of the opportunities provided through MSUM coursework; these include, but are not limited to professional sport teams, specialty camps, or a unique clinical site.
