DEPARTMENT VALUES
Our department strives to develop living communities that incorporate the following for all residents:

Your rights as a residence hall community member:
To live in a supportive and stimulating community; to sleep and study without disturbance; to live in a safe, secure, healthy, and clean environment; to socialize in your room; to enjoy a variety of quality foods; and to involve yourself and others in promoting an educational, open, responsible, caring, involving and celebrative community.

Your responsibility as a residence hall community member:
To consider the needs of other residents and balance them with your own needs; to promote care of the physical facilities, equipment, and services; to communicate with other residents and staff member, to let other residents know when they are disturbing you; to demonstrate a commitment to the community by getting involved; to promote campus and individual safety; and to demonstrate dignity and respect for all individuals.

HIRING PRACTICES
Our department is committed to diversifying our staff and hiring open minded, supportive and nurturing individuals.  For more information on applying for positions in the Housing & Residential Life Department stop by the Housing Office in Ballard Hall.  Our main student positions include:

Office Assistants:  Applications available on-line.  Hired over the summer.

Resident Assistants:  Applications are made available mid November and are due mid January.

The MSUM Safe Zone Project seeks to form a group of students, faculty and staff committed and trained to provide safe, non-judgmental and supportive contacts for all MSUM community members who may be dealing with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or questioning issues.

In our department the following people have gone through the Safe Zone training session and have signed a contract agreeing to be a Safe Zone contact:
