"It is thought to be democratic for the offices to be assigned by lot, for them to be elected is oligarchic."
-Aristotle

Systems Administrator

Dept. of Information Technology

Here at Minnesota State University Moorhead, I am primarily responsible for managing the campus Novell environment, including network printing. I also manage several Microsoft Windows and Linux servers that host back-end applications (DHCP, antivirus, tape backup, SAN management, application delivery and licensing, etc). In addition to that, I am resposible for managing and maintaining our disk-to-disk-to-tape (D2D2T) backup architecture for most of our servers (client OSes are various flavors of Linux, Mac OS X, Netware and Windows and total around 60).

Here are the types of systems and services I manage:

  • Systems
    • Novell Netware
    • Suse Linux/OES2
    • Microsoft Windows
    • Gentoo Linux
    • Redhat Linux
  • Services
    • Novell eDirectory
    • Novell GroupWise
    • Novell ZenWorks
    • BakBone NetVault
    • Approximately 270 campus network printers (mostly HP, with a smattering of Xerox, Lexmark & Lanier)
    • Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition
      • Symantec's list of the Latest Threats.

Misty Mountain Graphics

3 Legged Monster (his band)

Johnny is, like, the best drummer in the world. Except for maybe Terry Bozzio. Or maybe Neal Peart. Or...

And his guitarist's amps go to "elevin."

Other stuff:

If you are not using Mozilla Firefox instead of IE, shame on you! :-) (Or Thunderbird, the best email client out there.)
