Health Promotion Wellness Education Internship Program
MSUM Hendrix Health Center
Goals
As an extension of Hendrix Health Center and Minnesota State University Moorhead, Health Promotion Wellness Educators develop and implement activities designed to encourage positive lifestyles. The goals of Wellness Educators are to:
- Give students a practical work experience in developing and implementing a health promotion effort.
- Give students training and experience in organizational management and leadership.
- Develop a student-driven effort to create a healthier campus.
Responsibilities
- Attend spring training sessions.
- Attend fall training sessions.
- Attend in-service meetings- 1 hour each week determined by interns’ class schedules.
- Complete one group health promotion project as assigned.
- Work individually and with other Wellness Educators on health promotion as assigned.
- Assist in the recruitment, selection, and training of future interns.
- Assist in evaluation of promotional efforts.
Time Commitment
The time commitment for this unpaid internship is approximately 3 hours per week. Applicants should note that this time commitment will involve varied work environments, including individual work, committee work, and large group activities. An intern’s actual time commitment will vary during the year, depending on the projects assigned.

Credits
Academic credits are optional and can be obtained. Contact your advisor or specific department to see if a course applies to your individual situation.
Qualifications
- Open to any MSUM student.
- Minimum 1 academic year commitment.
- Ability to work independently and with others.
- Ability to mange time and stress well.
- Past experience in public speaking, program planning, and working with events at MSUM are helpful but not required.
- We welcome and invite diversity.
Since this internship deals with program development, marketing, budgeting, communication, speech, education, and health, students majoring in many areas will find it valuable.

Step 1: Candidate must complete and submit an application form to Hendrix Health Center. The application
form is linked here as a PDF form and can be filled out and submitted to the Hendrix Health Center.

Step 2: Candidates should schedule a personal interview by calling 477-2211, ask for Lynn Peterson.
Step 3: Candidates will be selected and notified following all interviews.
Note: Applications will be taken in the Spring for the next academic year.
