Lists.mnstate.edu Users Guide
To see information about a list, go to
http://lists.mnstate.edu/mailman/listinfo/[listname in lowercase].
For example, if your listname is Good_news, the login screen is at
http://lists.mnstate.edu/mailman/admin/good_news. Notice that the “G” in the
name is in lower-case for the link.
You may only subscribe to lists that allow members to
self-subscribe. You will receive the listname from an instructor or organization
member if it is available for subscription. You may subscribe either through the
web or e-mail. It is recommended that you use your mnstate.edu address so
we can provide better support if you have problems your list subscription.
- Go to http://lists.mnstate.edu/mailman/listinfo/[listname in lowercase].
For example, if your list name is Good_news, the login screen is at
http://lists.mnstate.edu/mailman/admin/good_news. Notice that the “G” in the
name is in lowercase for the link.
- Follow the instructions for subscribing on
the screen.
- You will receive an e-mail request from the Mailman
server list asking you to confirm your subscription. Reply to the message,
without changing anything in the subject and your subscription will be
completed. This confirmation step guarantees that you did not mistype your
e-mail address, and prevents others from subscribing you to lists.
- After
your confirmation reply is received, you will be sent a welcome message with
basic information about the list, and how to unsubscribe from the list.
- To subscribe to a list via e-mail, send an email to
listname-request@lists.mnstate.edu,
replacing listname with the name of the list to which you want to subscribe.
- In the subject of the message enter ‘subscribe password’
without quotes, replacing password with the password you would
like for the list. If you omit the password, one will be randomly
generated. List passwords never expire.
- Leave the body of the message empty. Disable or
remove any digital signature.
- You will receive an e-mail request from the Mailman
server list asking you to confirm your subscription. Reply to the message,
without changing anything in the subject and your subscription will be
complete. This confirmation step guarantees that you did not mistype your
e-mail address, and prevents others from subscribing you to lists.
- After
your confirmation reply is received, you will be sent a welcome message with
basic information about the list, and how to unsubscribe from the list.

unsubscribe. The Official and Student_official lists and some class lists do not
allow you to unsubscribe, since they are means of conducting official university
business.

- Under the Listname Subscribers heading, enter your email address in the
"To unsubscribe from Listname, get a password reminder, or change your
subscription options..." box and click "Unsubscribe or edit options."
- Enter your email address in the space provided. Click the
'Unsubscribe' button.
- You will receive an e-mail request from the Mailman
server list asking you to confirm your request to unsubscribe. Reply to the message,
without changing anything in the subject and your subscription will be
removed. This confirmation step guarantees that you did not mistype your
e-mail address, and prevents others from unsubscribing you from lists.
- After
your confirmation reply is received, you will be sent a final confirmation that
you have been removed from the list.
- To unsubscribe from a list via e-mail, send an email to
listname-request@lists.mnstate.edu,
replacing listname with the name of the list from which you want to unsubscribe.
- In the subject of the message enter ‘unsubscribe’
without quotes.
- Leave the body of the message empty. Disable or

you have been removed from the list.
The following is a list of instructions for the most commonly used options
for lists. There are additional options available, but be sure you clearly
understand the effect before changing any option. All changes begin by going to
the List Options Page.
- Go to the List Subscription Page at http://lists.mnstate.edu/mailman/listinfo/[listname in lowercase].
For example, if your list name is Good_news, the login screen is at
http://lists.mnstate.edu/mailman/admin/good_news. Notice that the “G” in the
name is in lowercase for the link.
- Under the Listname Subscribers heading, enter your email address in the
"To unsubscribe from Listname, get a password reminder, or change your
subscription options..." box and click "Unsubscribe or edit options."
- If you forgot your list password, go to the
List Options Page as instructed above.
- Click the "Email My Password To Me" button.
- You will
quickly receive an email with your list password.
- To change your list password, go to the
List Options Page as instructed above.
- Enter your new password and then reenter to confirm
- Click the "Change My Password" button.
- You will
get an onscreen confirmation but no email confirmation. List passwords do
not expire.
Use this option if you will not be reading your email for a while (e.g., during
spring or
summer break) to temporarily discontinue delivery to your address without
unsubscribing.
- Go to the List Options Page
as instructed above.
- Scroll down to the "Your Listname Subscription
Options" section.
- In the "Mail delivery" section, select the "Disabled"
button.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the
"Submit My Changes"
button.
- You will receive an onscreen confirmation but no
email confirmation
- To restart delivery, repeat the process, selecting
the "Enabled" button.
Digest mode allows you to receive one daily email with all
messages from the list for that day bundled together.
- Go to the List Options Page
as instructed above.
- Scroll down to the "Your Listname Subscription
Options" section.
- In the "Set Digest Mode" section, select the "On"
button.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the
"Submit My Changes"
button.
- You will receive an onscreen confirmation but no
email confirmation
- To go back to receiving the messages singly, repeat the process,
selecting the "Off" button.
This option allows you to see all
of your subscriptions on lists.mnstate.edu .
- Go to the List Options Page
as instructed above.
- Scroll down to the "Your other lists.mnstate.edu
subscriptions" section.
- Click the "List my other subscriptions" button.
- Your will receive an onscreen list of your
subscriptons.
