    Request a New List

    Faculty may create an automatic class distribution list by following the instructions on the Create a Class Distribution List Serve page.

    Organizations may request the creation of a new list by sending an email to support@mnstate.edu. In the message, please indicate the name of the list you would like and a short description of the purpose of the list.

    Please send any special request for lists to support@mnstate.edu.

    After your list has been created, you will receive a notification e-mail with the URL to access the Management Pages for your list and the administrative password. Save this message for future reference. Sample notification.

    Manage Your List

    1. Open the login screen at http://lists.mnstate.edu/mailman/admin/[listname in lowercase]. For example, if your listname is Good_news, the login screen is at http://lists.mnstate.edu/mailman/admin/good_news. Notice that the “G” in the name is in lowercase for the link.
    2. Enter your password.
    3. The screen that opens is the “General Options Section”. This is the main settings panel.

    Change Your List Password

    1. Open the login screen at http://lists.mnstate.edu/mailman/admin/. Enter your password.
    2. Open the “Passwords” screen from the menu at the top left.
    3. Enter new passwords in the section below.

    Subscribe a Member

    1. Open the login screen at http://lists.mnstate.edu/mailman/admin/. Enter your password.
    2. Open the “Membership Management” screen using the link in the top left corner.
    3. Open the “Mass Subscription” screen (even if only a single new member is to be added.)
    4. Write the name of the new member into the topmost box at the bottom of the screen. Multiple new members can be added. Lists of members can also be pasted into the box.
    5. Click the "Submit Your Changes" button.

    Send a Message

    1. Compose the email message in your email program.
    2. Send the message to the list. For example: good_news@lists.mnstate.edu

    Unsubscribe a Member

    1. Open the login screen at http://lists.mnstate.edu/mailman/admin/. Enter your password.
    2. Open the membership management screen using the link in the top left corner.
    3. Find the email address by navigating through the alphanumerical list at the bottom of the screen.
    4. Click the "unsub" box in front of the target email address.
    5. Click the "Submit Your Changes" button beneath the list.

    Allow Members to Self-Subscribe or Unsubscribe

    1. Send potential subscribers to http://lists.mnstate.edu/mailman/listinfo/[list name in lowercase]. For example, if your list name is Good_news, the login screen is at http://lists.mnstate.edu/mailman/admin/good_news. Notice that the “G” in the name is in lowercase for the link.
    2. The instructions for subscribing and unsubscribing are on the screen.

    Request Removal of Your List

    If you no longer need the mailing list, please email support@mnstate.edu and request that the list be removed.
