MSUM Recording Studio
Guidelines
- Be sure to lock all of the doors when you leave. If you go out for even
a minute, make sure the outer door is locked.
- Keep in mind that you are the person responsible for all behaviour
and all equipment during your time in the studio. Any guest musicians or
friends in the studio with you need to understand that. If anything happens,
it is your responsibility, so make sure you inform your colleagues
how to treat the equipment, the facilities, and each other.
- Do not take food or drink into the Control Room or the Tracking Room.
Leave them out in the hallway. Make sure your colleagues understand this.
- Be sure to put away all equipment, back up and remove your files from
the computer, zero out the console and put away all patch cords. Make sure
your colleagues treat the cables, headphones, mic stands, and everything
else with care. You may need to show them how to use the equipment properly.
It is your responsibility.
- If you encounter any technical problems, please inform me as soon as possible.
It is a good idea to also note problems (and even discoveries of neat tricks)
in the Log Book.If something fails or breaks during your time in the studio,
for whatever reason, you must inform me immediately. Chances are it will
be a problem that can be fixed in some way or other. It is very irresponsible
to leave a problem "hidden" until someone else comes along and
discovers it, and most likely can't do what they had planned to do because
of it.
- If you are not going to be using your studio time, for some reason, you
may note that on the schedule on the door, or inform me. This way, someone
else may be able to plan an extra session in the studio in your place.
- If you do not show up by 15 minutes after the hour, the studio is no longer
yours for the rest of the hour. You will have to wait until the next hour
if you have any left.
- Be sure to allow time in your session for putting things away, backing
files up, etc.
- These guidelines are basically common sense. Keep in mind that the equipment
in the MSUM Recording Studio is delicate, often quite expensive, and difficult
to replace or repair. It is your studio, in cooperation with everyone
else using it. Please act accordingly. Failure to do so may result in loss
of studio privileges and failure of the course.
