Minnesota State University Moorhead Student's Evaluation of Course and Instruction

 

This evaluation is designed to aid the faculty member in improvement of instruction.  It may also be used in university decisions affecting this instructor.  Your answers will be kept anonymous and the faculty member will not have access to these forms until after grades for the course have been submitted.

A. Theory, class discussion, doing presentations on Bedford chapters, flexibility & time of paperwork due.

B. Intensity of reading pace (fast)

C. Yes.

A. The presentations, also I was happy there were no online tests please stop using those there crap!

B. I thought the papers were too much, I would stress quality over quantity.

C. Depends on the class.

A. Interesting discussions-different then just lecture video examples were good.

B. I have already read 5 of the plays-There wasn’t much new material for me. I would have preferred if you had us read “Midsummer’s Night Dream” rather than “Romeo & Juliet”

A. Modeling – Teaching what English Scholars do. Historical contexts. Active participation.

B. Too High paced-This class should not be offered in the summer, and it wouldn’t have to be if it did not conflict with Capstone courses & other required courses in Fall/Spring. I feel cheated.

C. Yes.

D. Semi-circle arrangement – were 300-level –we can deal with it responsibly. I think exams of basic concepts might be a good Teaching Tool (not evaluative) –Online Message Board is Nice

                                                                                                                                                                                   

A. The fact that I learned to look at Shakespeare with a different analytical light than what I am used to from previous public education.

A. Class discussion & the energy the professor brought to those discussions.

B. Annotated Bibliography – I learned the least and spent the most time on this paper only to find I can’t use those sources for my chosen thesis anyway.

C. Definitely –he is “hard-core” and has strict policies, but I learned So much, and he kept me accountable for all of that information. He is more approachable on a one-on-one basis than in the actual classroom.

A. Insightful discussion. Historical background to 16th 17th century. No quizzes, since we were a good class for discussion.

B. Final paper, moved a little too quickly reading 2 plays/week.

C. Yes-for sure.

D. Awesome job Prof. Hamrick. Thank you for the great experience. A. Hamrick pushed us to think deep about the subjects he was talking about.

B. Hamrick tries to control the class too much. If someone has conflicting ideas, he tries to change the topic quickly.

A. Reading Shakespeare brought a lot of good arguments in class discussion. Bringing up ideas about how we live our lives today.

B. Lack of time to study certain texts.

C. Very much so, especially for those who don’t have a liking towards Shakespeare. He helps to understand, but makes it fun and excitable to learn.

A. good through lectures about Shakespeare- very knowledgeable and enlighting.

B. The course could’ve used more time it seems too rushed- but it is summer.

A. I got the opportunity to read Marlowe which is something I probably wouldn’t have done otherwise.

B. I wish we would have read something other than Romeo & Juliet.

A. Hamrick was very knowledgeable and had a strong desire to teach us rather than have us mimick him.

B. It was a little intense at times but it’s summer so I expected it.

C. 100% yes.

D. Hamrick ensures the students understand & is willing to take extra strides to help.

                                                                                                                                                                                   

A. The historical background.

B. I feel that we are at an age where we can communicate and discuss as a class w/out raising our hands. I like more class discussion w/each other.

C. Yes. If they are serious about eh courses he offers.

D. I very much like the course. And the instructor. And if the opportunity arises. I will take another class. A. I enjoyed the interactive style of teaching. Also the fact that when you called on someone to answer a question & they didn’t have a response-you moved on.

B. I did not enjoy the days where we talked about productions for a majority of the class. I liked more work w/the text.

C. Yes.

D. I liked the way you were willing to spend time with me to improve my writing. I appreciated the fact that when I had to miss class you were understanding.

                                                                                                                                                                                   

A. Instructors enthusiasm for subject and thoroughness in explaining paper assignments.

B. Reading secondary sources – many articles were so long that it took too much time away from reading the actual texts, especially in such a rapid summer course.

C. Yes

D. Dr. Hamrick is very considerate to students having problems with deadlines and is willing to work with them which is extremely helpful!
