SAME CLASS

In the space below, comment on the instructor’s performance in this class, his/her degree of preparedness and any other aspect of his/her teaching you would like to mention. Also comment on reading, workload, exams and papers, and rate this course in relation to other English courses you have taken.

Prof. Hamrick was always on fire to teach. His ability to make every word in a text subject for discussion was always fun. He called on students so that we were always ready to be put on the spot but he  worked with us if we didn’t know the answers. He really pushed learning new methods and preparing us for later English courses. The paper were difficult because the texts were read were difficult, but he was very willing to work with us in class and out of class to help. The tests kept us up to speed with what we were learning as well. This was the hardest  English class I have taken compared to any others, but I learned the most and enjoyed this one the best.

I thought Prof. Hamrick did a great job of explaining the text in class. He did a great job of directing the class where he wanted them to go. Also, the discussions during class were very helpful. I didn’t, however, like  that we had to do discussions on-line. I didn’t feel that they were very helpful. This is definitely the hardest I’ve ever  worked in a class. I found it very satisfying and rewarding.

-Professor very organized, knowledgeable in topics, and prepared to help students. -Exams are pretty fair. –Explication, explication, explication. did I mention you learn how to explicate? –Good class discussions – could allow students more options for discussion. –Good lectures & powerpoints.

I thought this class was excellent. I wouldn’t recommend changing anything.

Dr. Hamrick was always prepared for class. He put a lot of time and effort into slides and the D2L site. He brought handouts and visuals, which were helpful. The papers and exams were stressful. Especially the 1st exam, it was built up too much. Very productive class, but also hard work.

I thought I was going to hate this class but it ended up being one of my favorites of the term. Hamrick is an excellent professor in every regard and I thought the papers, quizzes, exams and general workload to be quite reasonable. The only negative: Down with online participation!

Prof. Extremely knowledge on the material Helpful and open to students. Passionate about material. Course Seemed to “skim” to much Lots to cover, little time to cover HUGE WORKLOAD Enjoyable material. Very good course.

Prof. Hamrick is very knowledgeable about his subject, and imparts that knowledge in a manner both interesting and thorough. I thoroughly enjoyed the course. The only negative comment I have is that the workload is heavy for lower level survey course; in fact, it had the heaviest workload of any 200 level course I’ve taken in the past 4 years. I sincerely appreciated Prof. Hamrick’s understanding as I was plagued with illness this semester –he generously extended due dates when illness prevented me from meeting them.

Hamrick seemed very prepared for every class. The last paper seemed a little pointless to me. The reading was doable. Give more time between paper 3 and paper  4. Expectations about the class and the students were higher than what they should be for a 200 level course. Hamrick is a very easy person to talk to and is willing to work with you so that you understand what is all going on. He is concerned with how students are doing in his class.

I enjoyed this class as far as discussions and content. I enjoyed the online aspect as well, however not the requirement of posting every week. The tests were hard, but doable. perhaps space the papers more evenly, or towards the beginning instead of towards the end, as there was a large gap between the first paper and last ones – the reading and workload was  doable as well. So far one of the hardest English classes I have taken.

He was always very well prepared  for class. We went very in depth into all of the texts, and I learned a lot about how to get meaning out of them. The thing I didn’t really like about his teaching method was that so much of the course depended on the internet. I don’t have it at home so I always had to go somewhere else to get those course materials, take the quizzes ,and comment on the message board just because I don’t have the internet. This course was excellent though.

The Prof. was very professional and personable. He’s teaching methods were very effective and I understood the writing assignments a bit more this time around “Explication” is a difficult concept to grasp only because the word is so daunting. The course should rally be a 300 level course because of the workload and the text being assigned are complicated. I feel its equivalent to that of the American Surveys. It was a good class and Prof. Hamrick livened the material with his present day application.

I really liked professor Hamrick, however it’s the work for the class that I didn’t like. Sometimes the reading assignments were to difficult. The papers were alright, but the explication could be a little difficult. I did not like the tests. There were too many vocabulary words to remember. Remembering lines of poetry, poets, and/or speakers was completely useless. No matter how many times I’d read the poetry I could never remember authors, speakers, and lines. Short answers were okay, however I found the third part to the extreme, this is a 200 level class, it shouldn’t be that difficult, for most it’s the first English class they have taken. I’ve learned that if you can make it through Hamrick’s class you can make it through anything.

For the level of the course the expectations on the students was a bit over the top. It did force the student to attempt tot perform at a much higher level then most are/were accustomed to, which forces learning but  also may induce an exceeding amount of stress. Dr. Hamrick was always prepared for class and easily approachable with questions. Open to criticism and/or praise as the class moved along through the semester. The final paper project should have been introduced earlier in the semester with required dates to have steps completed.

Mr. Hamrick enjoys his work and is very knowledgeable in his field as far as his ability to answer classroom question regarding the course info. He is very prepared and has a good use of computer tools to aid his class. The use of Desire to Learn is very important I believe and the Trope recognition drills are helpful. The reading is a burden gratefully carried (I only wish I could read all of Paradise Lost) which I intend to do over the summer. Exams are fair and papers given plenty of  time to accomplish.

I enjoyed Dr. Hamrick’s teaching methods and found his lectures to be informative and insightful. He was prepared for nearly every class and anything that was overlooked was soon accounted for. The only thing I didn’t like was the online quizzes, I did not find them very helpful. The reading and the essays assignments were challenging, but I feel as though I’ve learned a lot from them. The essays and exams were fair, yet quite challenging as they took a substantial mental effort. In comparison to other English courses I’ve taken English 211 was extraordinarily better, however, I’ve only taken 102 which was for too elementary.
