A. The chance to read Shakespeare.
B. Explicating the text. I understood the plays but finding what the professor saw hidden in the text was difficult for me.
C. Yes, only my friends who are VERY good with literature.
D. The discussions are very interesting, but sometimes I struggle because I don’t always agree with the things others see in the text. It seems like if you don’t see those things you feel a little dumb in class.

A. The discussions on the different topics within the plays.
B. Too little time spent on each play. I would have liked to discuss more before having to explicate.
C. Absolutely.
D. Hamrick was open to student opinions that differed from the norm. He was also willing to help with papers & questions during his office hours. Overall he was approachable & knowledgeable.

A. The variety of texts studied –tragedy, humor, history. Some really good themes and issues were raised in class, that can be applied to other literature.
B. Heavy reading schedule, so much to read in short schedule.

A. Very thorough reading. Hamrick knows a great deal about what he is teaching & the contexts they are placed in.

A. The professor is very knowledgeable –knows what he is talking about – truly interested in subject.
B. Classes got long, some of subject matter didn’t interest me.
C. If they want to take Shakespeare & take it seriously I would. I would tell them to be prepared to focus.

A. I learned a huge amount on in this class – very systematic & followed the syllabus perfectly.
B. it tended to be a bit intense at times & it was a bit scary – but it forced me to be alert and use my head.

A. It was very informative, and I like the combination of discussion and lecture.

D. It is a challenging course, but I learned a lot not only about the topic but also literary analysis and techniques that will be useful in other courses in the future.

STUDENTS WRITING WAS UNREADABLE
A. I thoroughly enjoyed Titus Andronicus, as well as reading the other plays.
B. I didn’t like always being called on, but it was a good experience.
C. Yes. He’s a tough teacher, but like his methods.

A. The course was very intellectually stimulating and taught me a lot about Shakespeare as well as other things that don’t necessarily pertain to Shakespeare.

D. Dr. Hamrick is a phenomenal professor who really cares about the developments of his students. He is a valuable faculty member for M.S.U.M. and, hopefully, he is respected with due manner.

A. I really enjoyed the class participation and the fact that that was what the class was based on. I also felt I learned so much more because of the in-depth study of the texts, something missing in other classes I’ve taken.
B. There was really nothing.

D. I have never been so encouraged, challenged, or respected by a professor.

A. Attention to religious contexts in the work Loved Tamburlaine especially.
B. Close reading, actually, I like stories for their own sake too.

D. Although discussion is encouraged, I worry that it’s funneled in particular direction.

A. I liked the extensive interpretation of both language tenique and larger discourse in these plays.

B. It was instructor related.

D. I felt his scheme on grading things makes no sense, everyone did really well on their 1st paper & then shitty on the second & there was no explanation. He know left helpful or any comments on the paper. He also was very fuzzy on defitions.

A. Very intensive study of text & times that Shakespeare lived in Discussion of what Shakespeare was trying to explore through his plays.
B. It is a lot of time consuming work, but hey, its Shakespeare.
C. Absolutely, I’ve learned more from this class than any other.
D. I have a lot more learning tools to bring w/ me.
