  • Special Education Graduate Licensure Requirements

    Candidates entering to pursue special education licensure, who are not degree seeking, apply as Graduate Unclassified (Special) students. To pursue any of the five-licensure options, candidates must meet Selection and Retention into Teacher Education (SARTE) requirements.

    Admission Requirements

    1. Completed "Application for Admission to Graduate Study" form.
    2. Completed Special Education Application Form.
    3. Official transcripts from ALL colleges and universities attended sent directly from the institution to the MSUM Graduate Studies Office. Transcripts issued to students are not considered official and may not be substituted for official transcripts.
    4. Copy of current MN Teaching License.
    5. A non-refundable $20.00 fee for first-time applicants payable to Minnesota State University Moorhead.

    Admission to Teacher Education (SARTE)

    Upon admission as a Graduate Unclassified (Special) student to pursue a licensure program you will be admitted to the teacher education program. This admission requires:

    1. Previous completion of a teacher education licensure program (graduate or undergraduate) with a cumulative GPA of 2.7
    2. Current MN Teaching License

    Required coursework may vary from student to student based on previous degree, teaching license(s) and coursework on transcript.

    8710.5850 Teachers of Special Education: Autism Spectrum Disorders

    **MSUM will be discontinuing the coursework for this program.

     

    8710.5400 Teachers of Special Education: Developmental Disabilities

    This licensure option provides candidates with expertise to teach students identified as Developmental Cognitive Disabilities (DCD). The required coursework reflects MN Board of Teaching approved programming for licensure in Developmental Disabilities (DD).

    This licensure option provides candidates with expertise to teach students identified with an Emotional Behavior Disorder (EBD). The required coursework reflects MN Board of Teaching approved programming for licensure in Emotional Behavior Disorders (EBD).
