Academic Apprenticeship ScholarshipMSU Moorhead seeks applicants from culturally diverse backgrounds who demonstrate academic talent or strength in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM major, includes science and math education); visual or performing arts; business administration or accounting (major must be declared upon arrival). The scholarship is for tuition up to a maximum of 15 credits for fall and spring semesters at Minnesota in-state or reciprocity rates. Scholarship is renewable for up to three years or until the student receives a Bachelor's Degree, whichever is first. Applications are reviewed as received. Eligibility The applicant must be officially admitted as an undergraduate to MSUM, declare an eligible major, and meet one of the criteria listed below. New freshman and transfer students are eligible to apply. Criteria for Selection Freshman or transfer student from an underrepresented group who meets one of the criteria: - Person of color; or - First generation (neither parent received a college degree); or - Pell eligible (for Spring 2008, EFC is less than 4111; for 2008-2009, Pell eligible); or - English is not the student's first language. - Demonstrated academic talent or strength in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM major, includes science and math education; visual or performing arts; business administration or accounting. Major must be declared upon arrival. Application Letter from student describing: - what eligibility factor(s) you meet, - why you believe you are eligible for the scholarship, - what is unique about you in relation to the eligibility criteria. - include information about your academic strengths and planned major. A supporting letter from a teacher who was your instructor in a class related to your planned eligible major (see above). Official transcript from high school (freshman applicant) or all colleges (transfer applicant). Requirements - Enrolled full-time in an eligible major. - Apprentice in the academic department of your major for a minimum of five (5) hours per week during the academic year. - Live on campus every semester. - Maintain satisfactory academic progress toward the eligible major. Final Application Deadline: FAFSA results and all scholarship application materials must be received by the Office of Scholarship and Financial Aid by April 1, 2008 (for 2008-2009 academic year). |
