Access Scholarship
MSU Moorhead seeks applicants from culturally diverse backgrounds for the Access Scholarship. We value students who bring new perspectives to campus that enrich the campus environment. The Access Scholarship is awarded for full-time undergraduate tuition at MSUM for up to four years.
Eligibility The applicant must be officially admitted as an undergraduate to MSUM. New freshman and transfer students are eligible to apply for the scholarship. U.S. citizens, permanent resident and refugee candidates are eligible to apply.
Criteria for Selection to Receive an Access Scholarship Students from culturally diverse backgrounds and/or from an environment limiting their college preparation skills are encouraged to apply. The scholarship is competitive; selection is based on the applicant's strengths and attributes they bring to MSUM. Financial need is considered in the selection process; applicants must submit a complete Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with results sent to MSUM (school code 002367).
Scholarship Benefits and Requirements Background and experiences are valuable to the campus community. The scholarship recipient is offered a faculty mentor, expected to take a First Year Experience (FYE) course, join and participate in a student organization, and live on campus every semester.
Expenses Covered by the Scholarship Annual tuition up to a maximum of 15 credits a semester at Minnesota in-state or reciprocity rate. The scholarship does not cover activity fees, room, board, books, transportation costs, admission application fees, or other associated expenses.
Scholarship Renewal The scholarship is offered for up to four (4) academic years or until the student receives a Bachelor's Degree, whichever is first. A FAFSA must be submitted for each year to renew the scholarship. Recipients are required to meet the minimum standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress for financial aid eligibility and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.25.
Application Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation from individuals who comment on the applicant's strengths and characteristics and respond to the questions, including why the applicant is interested in attending MSUM and characteristics they bring to enrich the campus community.
FAFSA results and all Access Scholarship application materials must be received by the Office of Scholarship and Financial Aid by April 1, 2008.
