TEARC Appeals

Out of Area Student Teaching:  For students wishing to do their student teaching outside of the Fargo-Moorhead area.  Note:  You must first schedule a meeting with Dr. Lynn Mahlum, Director of Field Experiences, before you fill out the TEARC Appeal Form.

Low GPA:  For students who have a GPA which does not meet an education department's minimum requirements.

Entrance into PFY:  For those students who have been denied admittance.

Academic Appeals
Academic Appeals may be filed to seek waiver of a graduation or liberal studies requirement, retroactively withdraw from a course after the deadline has passed, and other similar situations.

Dean's List

Published at the close of each semester.  Certificates printed upon student request.

Graduation & Other Paperwork

Graduation checklist and application form are available online, or from the Records Office in Owens 104.
Students must submit an Application for Graduation one semester prior to graduation.
Note: PFY Students will complete their applications during PFY Advising.

All education majors must complete 128 credits to graduate.
Curriculum Worksheet for Teaching License is available online, or from the Records Office in Owens 104.  It must be completed by the program coordinator and submitted to the Registrar during your senior year.

Application forms for Minnesota licenses are available online, or from the Records Office in Owens 104.


Human Relations Requirements

All persons applying for a teaching license must complete the Human Relations requirements.  These must be completed one semester prior to graduation or/and licensure.  Requirements are as follows:

For ALL Early Childhood, Elementary, Secondary, and Special Education Majors:

MCS 233 Education and Multicultural America
ED 310 Social Foundations of Education

For Early Childhood Education Majors:
EECE 280 Introduction to Early Childhood Education


For Special Education Majors:

SPED 494 Legal/Social Foundations of Special Education


Individuals already holding a teaching license or/and education degree which does not meet the Minnesota Human Relations Requirements must take:
ED 408/508 Human Resources for Educators




Dispositions

Dispositions are defined as the values, commitments, and professional ethics that influence behaviors toward students, families, colleagues, and communities, and which affect student learning, motivation, and development, as well as the educator's own professional growth.
The National Council for the Accreditation of teacher Education (NCATE) has mandated that colleges of education must assess teacher candidates' "professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to help all students learn" (NCATE, 2002).  Read more about dispositions are how they will be assessed...
