    Description

    The Certificate in Professional Writing provides the opportunity for students, professionals, and business people to enhance their communication skills and credentials with a special emphasis on coursework tailored to their work settings and careers.

    The Certificate in Professional Writing is designed for students pursuing or holding a bachelor’s degree from MSUM or an equivalent university.

    Objectives

    Students who complete the Certificate in Professional Writing will be able to:

    • write clear, concise, and grammatically correct correspondence that is appropriate for the audience and market.
    • write professional correspondence such as emails, letters, memorandums, progress reports, instructions, proposals, feasibility studies, and webpages.
    • format professional correspondences using the latest software and digital mecha necessary for desktop publishing and web design.
    • speak effectively to audiences of various sizes.

    Requirements for the Certificate in Professional Writing

    Students must complete 16 credits. The coursework includes the following:

    • CSIS 103 – Computer Concepts and Applications (3)
    • MC 220 – Desktop Publishing (3)
    • ENGL 286 – Writing in the Workplace (3)
    • ENGL 387 – Technical Report Writing (4)
    • CMST 301 – Business and Professional Communications (3)
