Interview Questions to Expect...

- Why should we hire you?  What will you do for our district?
- Why do you want to work for this particular district?
- Why do you want to teach?
- What is your teaching philosophy?
- How do you evaluate your own teaching performance?
- How do you implement an equal opportunity policy in your classroom?
- How do you integrate your class with the school as a whole?
- What are the advantages/disadvantages of working in a school of this type?  Why this job?
- What is the role of parents in relation to the classroom and the school?
- How would you handle ______ (behavior situation)?


Preparing for the Interview...

- Do your homework.  Use the web and district handbooks and publications to research the district's philosophy, goals, reading programs, special programs, class size, discipline policy, etc.
- Bring your most current resume and have multiple copies for each person to look at.  You may be meeting with one or two people, or with a whole committee.
- Also bring multiple copies of any letters of recommendation.
- Prepare a portfolio to bring that highlights your best work.
- Bring your portfolio and know it inside and out.  They may want to look at it and ask you questions about it.
- Prepare a short statement about yourself to start the interview with (ex. where you went to school, majors, hobbies, any personal information you want to share).
-Dress neatly and professionally.  No distracting jewelry, no cleavage or midsection showing.


Following the Interview...

- Send a thank you note to the administrator and, if applicable, to the interview committee chair
