Smaller class sizes ensure a supportive learning environment. Average class size for the College of Education and Human Services is 21 (as of Fall '06).
Lots of experiences with real children of varied ages in area schools. Several of our faculty were classroom teachers or administrators. Opportunities in classrooms + ideals = good education graduates.
Partnerships for varied experiences with multicultural, varied income-level students and families at Madison Elementary School in Detroit Lakes, and with Hutterite colony near Hawley.
Expanding opportunities to student teach out of area: Aldine, TX, inner-city schools in St. Paul, Switzerland, and London. Other opportunities include tours to Korea and Italy.
We have an exemplary Early Childhood Center in our building where our students can see developmental educational practices in action.
Our teacher education students routinely score in the 93rd percentile or higher on standardized assessments of professional knowledge.
Total Employment Rate for Early Childhood Teacher Education Bachelor of Science of the students responding is 94.1%.
Minnesota school districts and charter schools identified the following teacher shortage areas: Science (all fields), Special Education: Emotional Behavioral Disorders (EBD), Learning Disabilities (LD), Technology (Industrial Arts), English as a Second Language, Mathematics, Agriculture, Spanish, Business, and Music (Vocational and Instrumental). The respondents identified surplus areas as: Elementary Education, Social Studies, and Physical Education.
There are many licensure areas available: Early Childhood/Preprimary, Elementary K-6 and Specialty up to Grade 8, Secondary, Special Education. Can add Certificates in Coaching, Literacy, Technology, Reading, and more.
