Adding Experiences to Your Teaching Resume
Potential employers look for a number of things in teacher candidates. In addition to doing high quality work in your education courses and having a great recommendation from your student teaching supervisor, you will want to include a variety of activities and experiences on your resume. These should demonstrate not only your experience working with children, but also community involvement, professional involvement, and leadership experience. All of these will be important components of your professional life as a teacher.
Some things to include:
- community involvement
- volunteer experiences
- clubs and organizations
- leadership roles (on and off campus)
- experiences working with children in structured settings (paid and unpaid)
- experiences working with diverse groups of children (ie. special needs, children of color)
- attendance at state and national conferences (NDEA, Education MN, MENC, etc.)
