Instructions

Welcome to the SARTE (Selective Admission and Retention in Teacher Education) application page.  You must apply and be accepted to the Teacher Education Program before you will be able to register for 300 and 400 level education courses.

Please scroll down for detailed SARTE requirements and application instructions.

Attention SARTE Applicants:
Before a student can apply for SARTE online, the student's advisor must first log in and complete the prerequisite information for that student.  Education advisors will receive training on this part of the process in September, and will have student data entered in time for the October SARTE application window.  Thank you for your patience.

1.  Submit the SARTE Application Form upon completion of all requirements.
You may NOT submit the application during the semester that the required SARTE courses are in progress.  If you have required courses in progress, please meet with your advisor to determine whether a one-semester provisional admission to SARTE is warranted.  Note: Watch for the notice of the due date for submitting the SARTE form each semester.

(Note:  Both CMST 100 and AMCS are needed for licensure, but only one must be completed prior to SARTE application.) Also highlight your overall GPA, Liberal Studies/Draong Core GPA, and PPST (Praxis I).  (Note:  You must pass all three sections of the Praxis I test for licensure, but only need to have taken the test to be eligible for SARTE admission.)

This is to be a professional-quality letter.  Be sure to type it (approximately one page in length) and edit it for spelling, punctuation and grammar.  Your typed first and last names need to appear at the bottom of the letter.

4.  Transfer students: If a transfer course has been substituted for any of the following courses, it should appear on your DARS transcript as a transfer grade (ex. TA = transfer A).  If it does not yet appear on your DARS as a substitute for one of the required courses, attach a copy of the MSUM Departmental Request for Course Exception, signed by the person who approved the substitution.  (For questions regarding this, please see the Director of Teacher Education, Lommen 213,  477-2256.)

5.  If your current transcript does not indicate that you have taken the PPST, attach a copy of your PPST scores
. If you have scheduled the test but have not taken it, you will not be able to submit your SARTE packet.  Please meet with your advisor to determine whether a one-semester provisional admission to SARTE is warranted.
