This course offers the student the opportunity to become familiar with different assessment processes and required paperwork used in a special education setting.  The students will sign up for the practicum during the first week of assessment class (SPED 463 or SPED 563), which must be taken concurrently with this class. The lab includes a requirement of 40 hours (3-4 hours per week).   This time is used to interview teachers, become familiar with the paperwork process, complete online weekly discussions and administer formal and informal assessments.  You will be working with a core group of cooperating teachers during this lab experience, and you will need to sign up for activities on an ongoing, weekly basis.

Students must have insurance before they start visiting a school.  Insurance forms are available online through www.educationminnesota.org  (you need to become a member of this professional organization and pay the dues for the insurance coverage) or in the Field Experiences Office in Lommen.
